At its annual organizational meeting Jan. 8, the Osseo School Board re-elected Dean Henke board chair. It also elected Teresa Lunt vice chair, Tammie Epley clerk and Jim Burgett treasurer.
The board also set its compensation at the same level where it has remained since 2006. Including the $50 monthly reimbursement for in-district mileage and other expenses, the chair will make $750 per month, the clerk will make $675 per month and other board members will make $650 per month.
In response to prior comments from a community member, Teresa Lunt researched the board compensation of other large districts in Minnesota. She discovered board directors of the four largest school districts in the state are compensated as follows (the chair earns more):
• Anoka-Hennepin, $14,400
• St. Paul, $10,800
• Minneapolis, $13,800
• Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan, $6,221.
Osseo is fifth-largest district, and directors earn $7,800 annually.
Lunt said she kept track of the time she spent on board activities last year and estimated her pay equaled an hourly rate of $12-13 without accounting for time spent reading or preparing for board meetings.
Jim Burgett said he did the same and agreed with Lunt’s estimates.
