To the Editor:
The moment I read the statement from Minnesota Revenue Commissioner Myron Frans, quoted in your Jan. 10 article “Revenue boosts could mean sales tax on clothing,” lyrics from an old Beatles song popped into my mind.
The statement in question: “There’s an enormous amount of stuff we don’t tax.”
The Beatles lyrics: “If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street, If you try to sit, I’ll tax your seat. If you get too cold, I’ll tax the heat, If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet,” (from “Taxman” by George Harrison).
Go ahead, Democrats. Tax every little thing. Your fingers are itching. But just remember, we work hard for the money you’re trying to “capture.” It’s not yours, and we will hold you accountable for the unhealthy obsession you seem to have with sticking your hands in our pockets.
