Armstrong, Cooper students do well in state debate
Andrew Urevig, a junior at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School, recently won the 2013 Minnesota State High School League Lincoln-Douglas State Debate championship Jan. 18-19.
Andrew entered the elimination rounds as the number one seed and was the only competitor not to lose any debates. He sealed the championship with a 5-2 decision in the final round of the debate and became the first Armstrong student to win the state championship. He is the second overall state champion from Robbinsdale Area Schools.
Andrew is also the seventh student in the history of the state debate tournament to reach the final round in two consecutive years.
Robbinsdale Cooper junior Olivia Heusinkveld and sophomore Seth Thompson finished as quarter-finalists in the Public Forum debate, the highest placings ever for any Robbinsdale Area Schools team in Public Forum debate rounds.
