Fiddle workshop open to beginners
The Crossings at Brookwood, 6201 North Lilac Drive in Brooklyn Center, and Jump Start Your Fiddle are hosting a winter fiddling workshop to bring music to the local community.
Jump Start Your Fiddle received a Minnesota State Arts Board grant to teach old time fiddle music during the workshop.
The workshop will be for adult beginners who can come in and learn to play the fiddle from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Crossings at Brookwood. Players can compete in a fiddle contest at 1 p.m. Participants will learn tools to continue learning, playing and even teach the art form to others.
Fiddle classes will continue monthly until a final workshop in the fall on Saturday, Oct. 19. Participants may attend one or all of the classes. The monthly sessions in March through September are free. Participants who don’t own a violin or fiddle will have access to rentals from local music shops. The cost of the Feb. 9 workshop is $30 or $10 to participate in the contest only. The Oct. 19 workshop fee is $20.
