Tie the knot in Hennepin County Feb. 14
As many as 50 wedding ceremonies are planned at the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 S. 6th St., Minneapolis, on Thursday, Feb. 14. The free service is being offered for the first time with volunteer help from at least six judges from Hennepin County’s Fourth Judicial District Court. The ceremonies are scheduled from noon-1 p.m. for members of the military and first responders who are sheriff’s deputires, police officers, firefighters or emergency medical technicians and, space permitting, civilian couples.
Interested couples should send their names, mailing address, phone number and service status (military, first responder, or civilian) to Nancy Peters in Hennepin County Courts at firstname.lastname@example.org and apply for a marriage license at the service center by Friday, Feb. 9. Couples must be at least 17-years-old and ceremonies in Spanish are available upon request.
Check-in tables will be set up at 11:30 a.m. the day of the event. A marriage license, photo identifcation, valid military or first responder identification, and a five-day waiver application completed and signed by a judge (if applicable) are required.
