Hennepin County residents interested in how county taxes are assessed, where tax money goes and more are invited to check out the Citizens Academy starting Wednesday, April 3.
The Hennepin County Citizens Academy helps residents better understand the scope of county government by giving attendees the chance to interact face-to-face with county leaders and elected officials, including the commissioners, county administrator, sheriff, county attorney and department directors. Behind-the-scenes tours also give residents the chance to see their county government in action.
Sessions will be held weekly at facilities throughout the county on Wednesdays 6:30 – 9 p.m. April 3 to May 15. Each session will cover a variety of topics, including Developing the county budget; the elections process; transportation and road safety; human services and public health; the county’s role in public safety; Hennepin County Medical Center; environmental services; and transit and economic development. Registration is available online at hennepin.us. The academy is open to 50 people.
