Martin is one 134 candidates statewide to be considered for the honor. Candidates include prekindergarten through 12th-grade teachers at public and private schools.
A 25-member panel will narrow the list of candidates to a group of semifinalists and then finalists. The winner will be announced Sunday, May 5 at the Marriott Minneapolis Northwest in Brooklyn Park.
The Teacher of the Year program is run by the statewide teachers union Education Minnesota.
