District 11 school board appoints Harvey to Hoffman’s seat

When John Hoffman won a seat on the Minnesota Senate back in November, he vacated his seat representing District 3 on the Anoka-Hennepin School Board.
After reviewing resumes and interviewing applicants for the position, board members appointed Sales Project Director Bill Harvey of Champlin to fill the vacant District 3 seat, which includes Champlin, Dayton and part of Coon Rapids.
Harvey is the parent of three children in Anoka-Hennepin schools. He has been a volunteer at Oxbow Creek Elementary School, Jackson Middle School and Champlin Park High School and has supported education and community initiatives for 13 years. He is vice president and director of the Champlin Park High School Vocal Music Association. Harvey earned an undergraduate degree in business administration from Minnesota State Unversity — Mankato and works as a sales project director for the Anton Group.
With family and friends snapping photographs and smiling proudly from the audience, Harvey was sworn in and welcomed to the board during its Jan. 14 meeting.
Harvey will fulfill the remainder of the District 3 term, which expires Jan. 1, 2014.
But before continuing with agenda items, board members bid a fond farewell and expressed sincere gratitude to Hoffman for his eight year of service to students, staff and families in the school district.
Commending Hoffman for “leadership and dedicated service,” board members presented the out-going board member with a commemorative plaque.
And then board members surprised Hoffman with a giant framed photograph of him performing with Symphonic Rock, a concert series featuring the classic rock band, Staff Infection, which is comprised of members of District 11’s administrative team. Hoffman served as Staff Infection percussionist for many years.
Board Chairman Tom Heidemann urged Hoffman to hang the photograph on his wall at the State Capitol.
