Historical society seeks writing contest entries
The Minnesota Historical Society will send two students to Gettysburg National Park and give them iPads to blog about the experience.
Students in grades sixth- through twelfth-grade can write and submit a response to President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.
One junior high student and one senior high student will win the trip and iPad as a prize for submitting the best entries in the society’s “Dear President Lincoln” student writing contest. The senior division winner will also be offered a paid internship with the Minnesota Historical Society, worth up to $1,000. The prize is co-sponsored by the Minnesota Civil War Task Force.
Five students from each age group will be recognized as finalists and receive a one-year membership to the Minnesota Historical Society. Winners will be announced May 4 at the “Minnesota and the Civil War” family day at the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul.
Like Lincoln, students must argue their points in approximately 10 sentences, no more than 300 words. The deadline for entries is Monday, April 1.
