Train collides with semi in Brooklyn Park
A BNSF train mangled the trailer of a Ruan Logistics semi when it collided with the truck in Brooklyn Park Feb. 26.
Shortly before 11 a.m., police were called to the intersection of County Road 81 and 73rd Avenue.
According to police, the train was going south on the tracks that run parallel with County Road 81, and the truck was traveling east on 73rd Avenue, toward 81. The truck apparently didn’t clear thetracks quickly enough, and the train hit the trailer.
Brooklyn Park Police spokesperson Todd Milburn was unsure if the truck was moving when it was hit.
The railroad crossing has warning lights but no crossing arms. Police were still unsure whether the warning lights were functioning when the accident occurred.
No one on the train was injured. The truck driver did not appear to have serious injuries but was taken to North Memorial Hospital as a precaution.
Police said the truck was carrying some kind of weight, such as cement. Based on observation at the scene, the trailer didn’t appear full.
The State Patrol is assisting in the investigation.
