Crystal Community Center bustled with residents at a March 14 open house as community members arrived to give their feedback on a presentation of city park redesign concepts.
John Elholm, parks and recreation director, said the parks redesign is part of a 20-year vision for the parks system, with emphasis being placed on Becker Park due to its central location within the city and close proximity to the planned light rail transit station.
“We have five parks (on display), and each has a couple different concepts. For example, North Lions has one that’s heavy on sports fields, one that focuses a little more on winter recreation like ice skating and a sledding hill, and the third concept is more nature preservation. We’re just trying to get input from people about what they’d like to see at these different parks,” Elholm said.
Elholm said once public input is received and analyzed, his department anticipates having some solidified proposals to present to the council within the year.
