Nowthen woman killed in six-car crash on Highway 169 in New Hope

A 22-year-old Nowthen woman was killed in a six-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon on Highway 169 at Rockford Road.
According to the State Patrol, Kathryn Taylor Burkey was driving a Chevy Cruz that was struck around 5:25 p.m. by a Peterbilt semi driven by Jon Robert Lindeman, 60, of North Branch. Burkey was taken to North Memorial Medical Center.
According to the State Patrol, traffic was flowing northbound when the semi, in the left lane, struck Burkey’s vehicle from behind. Burkey’s car was pushed into a Ford Fusion, driven by Brett Matthew Leistico, 22, of Elk River. That vehicle then rear-ended a Chrysler van driven by Raymond Allen Ranney, 49, of Champlin.
Burkey’s vehicle came to rest in the right ditch. The Fusion and the Chrysler came to rest in the right lane. The semi continued on in the left lane, rear-ending a Toyota driven by Eyni Abdulcad Gaal, 22, of Willmar. The Toyota then rear-ended a Honda Odyssey, driven by Stephen Robert Griffiths, 32, of New Hope. Both of those vehicles came to rest in the left lane of the highway. The semi came to rest on the left shoulder.
Gaal and a passenger, Fowzio Abdulkadir Mohyadiin, 21, of Burnsville, Leistico and Ranney were taken to North Memorial for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Lindeman and Griffiths were not injured.
Also responding to the crash were the Plymouth police and fire departments, Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and North Memorial Ambulance.
