Sun Post Newspapers welcomes comments from its readers. Readers are encouraged to write letters to the editor and guest columns on topics of local interest.
Commentary in letters must relate specifically to issues in our local communities. We will not publish form letters.
Letters to the editor are limited to 350 words. Shorter letters are the most likely to be read.
All letters to the editor and guest columns must bear the author’s signature and complete home address. A daytime telephone number where the writer can be reached during business hours must be included for verification purposes. Letters should only be signed by those who participated in writing the letter. If there are multiple signatures on the letter, we request contact information from each individual, and are limited to five authors total. We will not publish any letter where the author has not been verified. All letters are verified via phone call to the writer.
All submissions must be received no later than 5 p.m. Thursdays for possible publication the following Thursday.
The newspaper reserves the right to edit all submissions and to reject any letters or columns that contain libelous or offensive material. Letters will be examined for name calling, libelous, false and misleading statements, and plagiarism. We reserve the right to not publish any letter.
Writers are responsible for verification of facts and providing legitimate documentation and sources for their statements. We may limit the number of letters published about a candidate or issue. We do not publish election-related letters in the issue immediately prior to an election. During campaign season, candidates are not eligible for letters, but do have a right to reply.
We will limit the frequency of letters published from an individual writer to one per calendar month.
